JAG Program Expands

This year, the Jobs for America’s Graduates program will be offered in six more local high schools. In addition to our existing programs at Terre Haute North High School, Northview High School and Sullivan High School, new JAG programs will be starting this fall in the following schools:

Greencastle High School
Riverton Parke High School
South Putnam High School
South Vermillion High School
Terre Haute South High School
Turkey Run High School

WorkOne Assists With Job Fair

On May 30th WorkOne partnered with 8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon to host a job fair at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute.

The job fair took place from 2 pm until 6 pm.

The event was a great success as approximately 1000 job seekers were able to meet with over 60 area employers.

Local JAG Students Excel At State Competition

INDIANAPOLIS (April 29, 2013) – Six local students were recognized at the 2013 Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Career Development Conference, the final state competition that challenges participants to demonstrate employability skills that took place on Friday, April 19 in Indianapolis.

Students competing in the state finals earned their spot by placing in one of the nine regional competitions. The top two students from each regional conference competition advanced to the state finals. There were six competitions at the state finals with nine to 16 students competing in each contest. The competitions included job interviews, writing skills, creative thinking, career presentations, public speaking and creative solutions.

The six students are:

Halie (Shayanne) Brown, a junior from Sullivan High School, placed 2^nd in the Career Presentation competition. She was awarded $350 to use for higher education.
Trevor Toress, a junior from Sullivan High School, placed 3^rd in the Creative Solutions competition. He was awarded $250.
Zach Wagle, a junior from Northview High School, placed 1^st in the Creative Solutions competition. He was awarded $500.
Sierra Hastings, a junior from Northview High School, placed 2^nd in the Employability Skills completion. She was awarded $350.
Ammity Means, a senior from Northview High School, placed 2^nd in the Writing Skills competition. She was awarded $350.
Darian Crum, a junior from Terre Haute North High School, was an Honorable Mention for the JAG Indiana’s Outstanding Senior Award. She received $750.

2013 WorkOne Achievement Awards-Outstanding Employer

On April 16th, the Twelve WorkOne Regions gathered at the Statehouse in Indianapolis for our annual WorkOne Achievement Award ceremony. Each Region honored an outstanding individual and outstanding employer for their successful use of WorkOne Services.

This year the event had a special surprise speaker as the Governor stopped by to congratulate the winners and to encourage the continued success of WorkOne in assisting Hoosiers.

This year, Region 7 honored Phoenix Closures of Greencastle as our outstanding individual.
