These pads are designed to be ultra-light and comfortable enough to wear on every ride. So comfortable in fact that you'll barely notice you're wearing them and won't feel the need to drop them around your ankles or put them in your pack on the climbs. The padding is on the more minimal side of things but the Poron XRD impact foam stiffens up under impact which helps them punch above their weight with the level of protection they provide.
