Wonderful assemblage of four volumes of manuscript sermons heard and recorded first hand during the years 1818 and 1819. These appear to all have been taken down in Portland Maine, and the majority of them were preached by Edward Payson. All appear to be completely unpublished.

Three other names appear as preachers aside from Edward Payson. They includes the Reverends Hooker, Tembroacke, and Woodbury.

The third is defective to the first sheet, affecting significant portions of text. Two appear to lack a final sheet. These aren't necessarily pristine. That said, they contain 9 previously unpublished sermons by one of the most fascinating preachers and persons of the age.

Leonard Ravenhill dubbed Payson, "Praying Payson of Portland." His memoirs and sermons have been in print since his death, including by Sprinkle late in the 20th century. His works are characterized by a penetrating holiness and spirituality, a deep relish of Christ, and a definite affinity for the brimstone. The present examples are perfectly in character. 

Again, as we said, defective at points, incomplete at points. But wonderful.

The first is good, removed from larger sammelband. The second very rare, a few stains and lightly faded. The third quite rubbed, rippled, and stained. Solid though.
