Noticeable but not dominant wood spice fights a bit with the otherwise well-layered aromas of earth, plum and notably ripe dark berry fruit along with a touch of herbal character. There is excellent concentration to the suave and velvety middle weight flavors that exhibit the typical youthful austerity on the balanced and impressively persistent finale where the herbal character resurfaces. This is actually relatively civilized for a young Clos de Vougeot but the leafiness may be enough to detract from the overall sense of harmony for some. 91/2019+
