Federal pandemic unemployment insurance benefits ending Sept. 4

Federal pandemic unemployment insurance benefits ending Sept. 4

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is reminding Hoosiers that all federal unemployment insurance (UI) benefit programs under the CARES Act will end Sept. 4, 2021.

The programs that will end are:

  • Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), which provides for an additional $300 weekly payment
  • Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), which provides benefits for those who would not usually qualify, such as the self-employed, gig workers, and part-time workers, and
  • Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), which provides for an extension of benefits once regular benefits have been exhausted.
  • Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC), which provides a $100 additional weekly benefit for individuals who are eligible for regular unemployment benefits but also earned at least $5,000 in self-employment income

Individuals can still submit applications for federal benefits for 30 days after that the Sept. 4 deadline, as long as the period of unemployment or reduced wages occurred before Sept. 4.

As of June 1, Hoosiers who are requesting unemployment benefits are required to be actively seeking full-time work. For job-seeking and training resources, visit www.in.gov/dwd.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, DWD has paid 881,000 Hoosiers a total of more than $9.2 billion.
