2016 Partner Conference

On November 18th WorkOne hosted our annual Partner Conference for Region 7.  The conference brings together representatives of local service providers to discuss the previous year and to share updates and information.

The conference is a great opportunity for everyone to network and learn more about the great work being accomplished in our region.

Ellen Reeves of the United Way kicked off the event with a "smartie" activity.  The activity used smarties candy to represent a typical family income.  Participants had to determine how to best spend their smarties while dealing with additional emergency situations.  The activity drove home the choices that many of our customers have to make every day.

Terre Haute North Welcomes Guest Speaker

The Terre Haute North program featured guest speaker Lonnie Bedwell.  Lonnie does not allow the fact that he is blind limit him from living an adven

turous life.  As a blind person Lonnie has scaled mountains, kayaked wild rivers and snow skied down advanced slopes. He talked about overcoming obstacles and not living with fear (false evidence about reality) or pity (poor information towards yourself).
THN Jag President Lauryn Taylor led the meeting and asked all officers to take a pledge to full fill the duties they have been elected to do.  The Vice President of Leadership Development assisted with the ceremony.   Students enjoyed a meal from China Wok.  JAG Members had invited four of their peers to attend the ceremony.  All students were respectful and ass

isted with the set up and tear down.  The meeting was held in the Teacher’s Lounge at North High School.

Sullivan JAG Students Conduct Mock Car Crash

Every day teenagers are killed in automobile accidents.  To help illustrate the dangers of impaired or distracted driving, the Sullivan High School JAG students conducted their annual mock car crash.  The students partnered with local fire and rescue personel to show their fellow students the potential impacts of impaired or distracted driving after a halloween party.

Terre Haute North JAG Hosts Halloween Carnival

The JAG students at Terre Haute North recently hosted a Halloween Carnival at the Ryyves Hall Haunted House.

JAG students were there early to set up game stations.  This gave the young children something else to do while the haunted house tours occurred.  JAG students organized games and prizes for the children.  We had a toilet paper toss, a face painting table, a count the candy corn game, Halloween bingo, free apple teeth treats, and a broom/pumpkin race.   Prizes were given to the children as well.   It was a great success and our JAG students felt great about their service.  There were around 75 young children in attendance.  They enjoyed the games and interacting with the JAG students.

2016 Veterans Expo

On Wednesday August 24th, WorkOne partnered with Terre Haute VFW Post 972 to host the 5th annual Veteran's Expo.

The Expo brought over 30 vendors to one location with the goal of serving our local Veterans.  This year's vendors included organizations that provide services for Veterans, local Colleges and Universities and employers with job opportunities.

Sandwiches, chips and drinks were provided for all who attended.

Congressman Larry Bucshon (IN-8) also stopped by the Expo to speak with Veterans, Service Providers and Employers.

In addition to the great connections made during the event, a silent auction featuring items donated by local merchants was held.  The auction raised $1348 for REACH Services (formerly UCP).  The donation will help REACH provide services to homeless veterans.

After the event students from the Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South JAG classes helped clean up the VFW Post.

Thank you to everyone who helped serve our Veterans with another great Expo!
